Terms of Use
Last updated: 27 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Max, an independent developer in Sydney, Australia ("we", "us"), who makes StudyCrest. They cover the StudyCrest app, the StudyCrest web app and the online service behind them, including your account, syncing your notes, the AI features, StudyCrest Pro and study groups. By creating an account or using StudyCrest, you agree to them. If you're under 18, please read them with a parent or guardian, who agrees to them on your behalf.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
The app licence
If you got StudyCrest from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. It covers your licence to install and use the app on your devices. These terms add the rules for the StudyCrest service. These terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for StudyCrest and its support.
Your account
- You must be 13 or older to use StudyCrest.
- Give us accurate details, especially your age group, because it changes how StudyCrest works for you.
- Keep your sign-in details private. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- One account per person. Don't share it or sell it.
Your work
Your notes, documents and answers belong to you. We store them in your account so they sync between your devices. You give us permission to store, copy and process your work only as needed to run StudyCrest for you: to sync and back it up, to send it to our AI provider when you use an AI feature, and to show what you share to your study group. You can stop at any time by deleting the work or your account.
Only upload things you're allowed to use. Test notices, past papers and worksheets from your school are fine for your own study, but don't share material in a study group if you don't have permission to share it.
The AI features
StudyCrest uses AI (Claude, made by Anthropic) to check working, explain mistakes, give hints, mark work, estimate how AI-like writing reads, suggest rewrites and predict practice tests. AI can be wrong. In particular:
- Feedback and hints can miss mistakes or flag correct work. Check anything important with your teacher or textbook.
- Marks are estimates of how an examiner might mark your work, not an official result.
- Predicted tests are a prediction. The real test may be quite different.
- The AI checker is an estimate. No tool can tell for certain whether writing was produced by AI, so don't rely on it to prove anything.
- The grade calculator works only from the weightings and marks you enter. Scaling, moderation and rounding can change your real result.
StudyCrest is a study aid, not a replacement for your teachers, and nothing in it is professional advice. If the AI notices something that suggests you might not be safe, StudyCrest shows support information instead of feedback.
Doing your own work
StudyCrest is there to help you learn. You're responsible for following your school's or university's rules about AI and academic integrity, including whether you may use the AI checker, the rewrite tool or AI feedback on assessed work. Don't hand in AI-generated or AI-rewritten work as your own where that isn't allowed. We're not responsible for the result if you break those rules.
Study groups and behaving well
Study groups are private and invite-only. When you use them, or StudyCrest generally, don't:
- bully, harass, threaten or embarrass anyone
- share anything sexual, violent, hateful or illegal, or other people's personal information
- share answers to a test or exam that's still being sat, or anything that helps someone cheat
- share material you don't have permission to share
- try to get around usage limits, break or overload the service, access other people's accounts or data, copy or resell the service, or take apart the server
Group owners can remove members and shared items, and anyone can report a group. We review reports and may remove content, close groups or suspend accounts that break these rules.
Free plan and StudyCrest Pro
Free plan. The free plan includes a limited number of AI requests each week (currently 10, resetting each Monday in your time zone). Some features, such as marking, the AI checker, the rewrite tool and Test Predictor, need StudyCrest Pro.
StudyCrest Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, paid monthly or yearly. You can buy it in the App Store or on the StudyCrest website, and it works on every device you sign in to. Before you buy, you'll see the price and any free trial.
If you subscribe in the App Store:
- Payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase, or at the end of a free trial.
- It renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel it in your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel it.
- If you subscribe during a free trial, any unused part of the trial ends.
- Apple handles payments and refunds. To ask for a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
If you subscribe on the website:
- Prices are in Australian dollars: currently A$8.99 a month, or A$69.99 a year with a 7-day free trial. Stripe takes the payment.
- You're charged when you subscribe, or when a free trial ends. If you cancel during the trial, you're not charged.
- It renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. Cancel any time in StudyCrest on the web → Settings → Manage subscription. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Deleting your account cancels it straight away.
- For a refund, email us. We don't usually refund part-used periods, but you always keep your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, for example if StudyCrest doesn't work as it should.
Both: Pro has fair-use limits so the service stays fast for everyone (currently 150 manual checks and 1,000 automatic checks a day), and all accounts are limited to 12 AI requests a minute.
We may change prices or what's included. We'll tell you before a price increase affects your subscription (Apple tells you for App Store subscriptions), and you can cancel before it applies. If we give you free Pro access (for example as a tester), we can end it at any time.
Changes and availability
We're always improving StudyCrest, so features may change, be added or be removed. We try to keep StudyCrest running smoothly, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during updates or if a service we rely on has problems. Your devices keep a copy of your notes, so you can keep writing offline or when the AI is unavailable, and changes sync when you're back online. Export important work as well, so you have your own copy.
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using StudyCrest after that, the new terms apply.
Ending your account
You can stop using StudyCrest and delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, or other laws that can't be excluded. Apart from those rights, StudyCrest is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows:
- we're not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost marks, lost opportunities or lost work that you could have kept a copy of
- where we fail to meet a consumer guarantee, our responsibility is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again
- otherwise, our total responsibility is limited to what you paid for StudyCrest Pro in the 12 months before the claim
- keep your own copies of important work: we work hard to keep your notes safe, but we can't promise they'll never be lost
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia. If there's a dispute, please contact us first so we can try to sort it out. If it can't be resolved, the courts of New South Wales will decide it, but if you live somewhere else, you keep any rights your local law gives you.
